Trese by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo

We’re not the biggest fan of comics but we jumped right into the world of Trese to show our support for the first ever Southeast Asian anime to be shown on Netflix. We were so amazed that a Filipino creation is taking center stage and made sure to find out more about it. Luckily, we had friends who are OG fans who had copies to lend to us. We alternated between reading the comics and watching the series but since the series had only a few episodes, we pored through the rest of the comics after we’ve already finished the series. And boy was it such an adventure that we didn’t want to end! The stories are fast paced so we deliberately had to slow down because we knew there were only a limited number of books. The characters all seem familiar so it was a bit easy to immediately get a feel of who to like and who to hate. The illustrations are all on point. The drawings add allure to the story while making sure it also leaves something for the imagination. It’s time to get behind something made by Filipino creators that is truly world class. Trese will make you really proud not just as a comic book but also as a modern day hero.
