Summer Special 2021: Dusit Thani’s Lubi Plantation
There used to be this only one go to luxury resort near Davao City and we like going there but more is always better so when Dusit Thani’s Lubi Plantation opened, we made sure to book as soon as we felt it was safe to do so. Last month Davao de Oro was already on MGCQ and the Davao region intensified measures to protect the area from a surge by closing borders. We thought that with those two things considered, it was the best time to book an overnight stay.
If you like road trips then the experience starts with the one and a half hour drive from the city to the Pindasan Port. From there Kopiat Island, home of the resort, is only about five minutes away via speedboat. We deliberately chose to check-in on a Monday since based on experience, that is usually the day with the lowest occupancy. A good move since we practically had the whole resort to ourselves.
Our two-bedroom villa has its own pool and if you have the budget for it, make sure to upgrade to the pool villas because the beach front area is rather small and a bit rocky but water is clear and clean. It’s a good size with spacious beds and a lot of common areas – pool side, sala and balcony – to gather together in or to escape to when you want a bit of solo time.
For the food, we opted for the full board meals and we both got to try the family and buffet style of serving. We preferred the family style serving since we didn’t like having to stand up to get food especially since there were considerably more people when we had the buffet lunch before we checked out. However it was served though, you will never go hungry with their generous servings. We especially liked their desserts that we had to ask the name of the chef, Chef Edgar Daclan, so we can make a special mention of him. My niece even liked the welcome and the turndown pastry treats!
There was so much to do at the resort but since we were only staying for two days, we made sure to focus on the things that we liked to do as a family. The jogging path is too short so you can go for two to three rounds to get a proper run in. The Kayak area is limited but surprisingly very chill and enjoyable but maybe because we got blessed with downcast skies that day. Our family really enjoyed our evening karaoke session plus that’s where the staff surprised the birthday celebrants of our family too. And again, as expected, the surprise cakes were delicious. In between meals and while waiting for the rooms, the ping pong table and foosball kept us busy. We didn’t get to try the tennis courts and a couple of other things but we’ll make sure to do so during our next visit.
We were a party of five with a kid, a teenager, a senior citizen and two adults and the fact that we all enjoyed the entire stay says a lot not just about the great food and excellent service but the range of amenities too. The place is for everyone so we hope that you and your family get to go and have an awesome time as we did.
