Around Tokyo: Nakameguro

Upon seeing the giant building with a sign that said Tsutaya, I immediately liked the area however that afternoon was reserved for a leisurely look along the Meguro River. I had no itinerary whatsoever and it’s the best feeling to just wander off and chance upon wonderful surprises. I want to share with you three of the surprises that I stumbled upon that day.

One cartoon that I grew up with was Snoopy so when I saw from the corner of my eye an unassuming sign that said Peanuts Café my heart skipped a beat. As soon as I went inside I felt a warm, fuzzy feeling inside of me. Somehow being there reminded me of my closest friends so I proceeded to check out the food and bought merchandise to give as Christmas gifts. There’s no line outside but I learned that it is best to call and reserve a table especially for big groups.

Bookshops are like magnets so even a strange name like Cow Books pulled me in. It was a pretty cozy place and very modern so I didn’t realize that the books they were selling were actually hard to find first or second prints. The lady at the shop spoke in broken English but despite that I could say she totally nailed excellent customer service to a tee. She answered all my questions, gave book recommendations, left me alone to pore over the pages and even offered to take a stolen photo. I went home with three books in tow. One for me and two more as gifts to friends.

I was so enamored by the chill and hip vibe that I forgot about wanting to find the perfect café with a nice vantage point to watch people walk by. Instead I chose to be one of those people who walked by however I did take out a bunch of yummy homemade cheesecakes from Johann.
