A Public Library Like No Other: Biblioteca Gabriel Garcia Marquez

We love books and reading. It also follows that we love bookshops and we do visit and make features about them but finding a really nice public library is something else.

The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Library is situated a bit far from the city center which probably adds to the charm of it. Having to take a longer than usual bus ride to go to a place that’s so perfectly serene in an academic way is part of the experience

The best way to describe the place is no space is wasted. Every corner has a purpose so even if it’s not huge, it has everything one needs from a library. To say that it’s beautiful is an understatement. The amount of natural light that envelopes the entire structure energizes the soul and helps those with poor eyesight to not strain their eyes which is very important to readers.

There were tourists like us who would shyly take photos and selfies but the atmosphere in general is very respectful. The building is said to resemble a stack of open books with folded and perforated pages. You can read more about the architecture in other features but what we can say is this, that as visitors we felt the utmost care and thought given by the designers and builders.
