Postcards from Beppu, Japan

Beppu is known as Japan’s Steam City, boasting the highest volume of hot spring water and the most sources in the country.
Interestingly, the half of the city with the most geothermal activity is labelled as “hell” while the other half is “heaven”.
Make sure to soak in an onsen before leaving. Beppu’s water is so minerally rich that you end up with a light layer of fine, chalky minerals once you dry out. Highly recommend trying Hyotan Onsen when in Beppu.
