New York Favorites now in Tokyo: Shake Shack and Dominique Ansel Bakery

In a recent trip to Tokyo, most of our friends thought we were in New York because of our food posts. It’s because two places we frequent are NY staples that are just as popular in Japan. Very rarely will you see the outside of Shake Shack without a line even if it is raining. From a humble hot dog cart in Madison Square Park, it’s now a proper restaurant that serves wine and even has a special menu item for dogs. We can’t get enough of the burger, fries and of course, the shake.

The bakery is a bit tricky to find because it’s not located along the main street of Shibuya where Omotesando Hills is. You have to go inside the area where Tokyo Union Church is located and walk a bit more to find a home-y looking place with queue outside. You definitely have to order the two signature items but don’t forget to order the madeleine’s and the very interesting cookie shot and frozen s’mores. And then there’s Dominique Ansel. While not everyone has probably heard of his name, most know about his creations called cronuts and DKA.
