Around Italy: Verona
Verona is not just a city for star-crossed lovers because I loved it and I went there as a regular tourist who was eager to see for myself the setting of probably the greatest, most tragic love story of all time. More than that, I wanted to also experience the place beyond Romeo and Juliet and it did not disappoint with Roman ruins more than any other Italian city other than Rome evident in most of its streets and many of its buildings which incorporate majestic remains of ancient walls, roads and villas. Apparently, as one local shared with me, even by Italian standards, the city also has more than its fair share of medieval, Renaissance art and culture.
