Every year the Singapore Night Race gets bigger and bigger – part of the grand festivities are the race concerts held all over the Marina Bay Circuit but the biggest ones happen at the Padang Stage.
On Friday the Big Bang fans came in early and in droves to witness probably the most popular K-pop act take the stage. And though we missed that one, we heard that it was fantastic.
On Saturday, we watched the Formula One Qualifying inside the Fan Zone to make sure we’d have a good spot to watch The Killers. Pun unintended, they killed it. They opened with Mr. Brightside and it was uphill from then. There is something about watching a concert with real fans who are not afraid to let loose. The energy all around was simply amazing.
Rihanna’s turn came on Sunday. The only girl in the world shone like a diamond but not everyone was exactly digging the newer more hip-hop songs. Nevertheless as soon as Riri indulged the crowd with her beloved dance hits, the hundreds of thousands of fans came alive.
A first for the Singapore Grand Prix was the post race concert held Monday evening. Fans had to pay separately to see Owl City and Justin Bieber but race ticket holders got a discount, after all the said concert was still part of official F1 Events List. It was a delight to chill to Owl City just as the sun was setting. It was the perfect combination.
Majority of the crowd though were clearly there for the Biebs. We were quite wary, after Rihanna let out more curses than necessary on stage the night before, as to how Justin will behave as clearly there were more kids below eighteen that evening. Well, he did not disappoint. He is no JT but he is clearly a wonderful performer in his own right and there is an undeniable strong connection between him and his fans. And much respect goes to JB for keeping the entire show wholesome.
