The Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan is a competition of tribal street dancing to give thanks for all the bounty of the past year and to also pray for more blessings to come. It’s festive and it stayed that way even if there were challenges along the way.
Sure there was a red alert but it was more a cautionary alert. The police and military were in full force so there was no worry in the faces of the people watching, only happy revelers ready to cheer the performers who have been dancing for hours already. Backpacks weren’t allowed as was announced in an advisory weeks before the event date and the police was happy to report that no one complained when they inspected and confiscated over five hundred backpacks that day. It is no surprise that the city was recently named as one of the safest in the world.
